SiViRT Center Outreach Activities

SiViRT Center funds a core facility for UTSA faculty and students in all disciplines for education, research, and STEM outreach. Advanced Visualization Laboratory (VizLab) is that core facility, open to outside collaboration with industry, academia, and non-profits.

VizLab is the only visualization laboratory to incorporate haptics devices.DR Yusheng Feng is the Director and a UTSA professor.VizLab is equipped with both Quanser HD2 and SensAble Omni Phantom Haptics Devices.UTSA researchers and students can precisely interact with their sophisticated 3D computational models.The VisWall is the laboratory's 14.4 feet wide and 6 feet tall visualization wall.VizLab is equipped with VTC equipment and software to support outside and international collaboration.To create and support a collaborative and interdisciplinary research infrastructure in computational engineering and sciences.SiViRT established an interdisciplinary team of faculty and students to promote a research oriented learning environment.SiViRT participates and encourages students to volunteer at local STEM outreach activities.SiViRT supports collaboration between the local businesses and UTSA students.SiViRT sponsored business and engineering students won the 2012 UTSA Student Technology Venture Competition.Lapara Medical Inc. developed a laparoscopic cooling device prototype for kidney surgeries. They won $100,000 dollars for their start-up company.SiViRT students participated in the South Africa PhD Conference. Students visited University of Cape Town as well as Somerset West Cheetah Reserve.
