2012 VizLab Open House

With an initial funding from the National Science Foundation, Advanced Visualization Laboratory (VizLab) opened its doors in May 2011. It has now become a core research facility for interdisciplinary research at UTSA. The VizLab provides researchers from all disciplines the opportunity to conduct simulation and visualization research.

VizLab is the only visualization laboratory in Texas to incorporate haptic devices.UTSA is one of the few schools in America to have a Quanser HD2 Haptics System.DR Yusheng Feng is the SiViRT Center and VizLab director. The VizLab combined SenAble Omni haptics device with nVIDIA 3D Vision to create interactive 3D simulations.SiViRT Center is working with the Athletics department to create a football kicking simulator.Alyssa Schaefbauer, Cole Meyers and Aaron Stout are the student members of the football kicking simulator. The VizLab is equipped with a 3D multi-laser scanner, a 82Prototypes or models, whether scanned or drawn, can be printed in either PLA or ABS plastic. The VizLab exposes UTSA students to the latest technology. This Multi-Touch display can detect up to 12 points of contact.Managed by SiViRT, the VizLab allows researchers from all disciplines to conduct simulation and visualization research. The VizWall is the laboratory's 14.4 ft by 6 ft visualization wall with an approximately 98 million pixels resolution.
