Texas Science and Engineering Festival

SiViRT Center faculty and students participated in the first ever Texas Science and Engineering Festival held on October 23-24, 2010 in Austin, Texas. This outreach activity sponsored by The Society of Mexican-American Engineers and Scientists (MAES) is to expose K-12 students to Science and Engineering with hands-on exhibits.

SiViRT aims to create an educational pathway by attracting K-12 students to science and engineering careers.SiViRT engages in community outreach with schools in the local and surrounding areas.Besides the Austin Science Fair, VizLab is frequently visited by K-12 students during school field trips and UTSA sponsored summer camps.Utlimately transforming UTSA's research environment.UTSA students and researchers can interact through force feedback with 3D models by haptic devices.UTSA students and researchers can create 3D models by hand or the center's multi-laser 3D scanner.SiViRT participated in the Austin Science Fair, UTSA annually EarthWeek, and the South Africa PhD Project.SiViRT encourages center sponsored students to participate in STEM outreach projects.SiViRT sponsors and participates in several science, engineering, and art related symposiums.
